The history of the area
The Calliola Conference & Event Center is located in Snappertuna between the Raseborg castle and Fagervik iron works and manor. Our country was ruled from here before Turku, and then Helsinki, became the capital of Finland.
In the mid 1800s, Rågö was separated into an independent status to the same village in which Jeppans Gård was located. This archipelago manor now known as Calliola, located in village of Båsa lived in its rural idyll in the Snappertuna municipality for about a hundred years. The area of Rågö, Rågöstrand was owned by the same fisherman family until the 1950s. The 1960s was a more quiet time because agricultural holdings and crop cultivation disappeared from the territory. The 1970s brought summer residents to the islands and life picked up when a bridge connecting the island to the mainland was built. Snappertuna became a source of local pride when it was known as the world's most Swedish language municipality.
Calliola is born
Reknowned opera singer Timo Mustakallio realized his dream of creating a holiday village archipelago estate in the 70s. Mustakallio was literally told to fill the island with opera. Art, nature and music have been an integral part of Calliola throughout its existence. According to legend, Mustakallio was known internationally by the stage name Callio, which led to the naming of the place. Before the transfer in 1997 to the current owners, Maiju and Kari Kasanen, to be set up as current seminar, conference and event operation, Calliola operated as a SKOP Bank recreational center.
